New strawberry planters up in time for spring!

Theres nothing i enjoy more than fresh berries and ive planted around 50 plants accross our back fence. Yum!

The new pond also arrived today it will look great with the lillies and gold fish

Brassicas coming along nicely

The brocoli and red cabbage plants that i salvaged from the possum ravaged plot seem to have taken well and are fruiting.
I have aquired a large 3 tier cascading pond feature to be put in and on the bank area so i'm looking forward to getting that all sorted with goldfish and lillies

Ground now leveled for glass house

After a day of rain i atempted levelling the clay surface for the proposed glass house. I dug a drainage ditch to allow for water run off and drew out a string line. The other news for the new garden area was a whole lot of pond plants that were gifted to me, various water lillies, irises and water weed, so looking forward to getting the pond feature sorted.

Even the chickens were helping!

Native New Zealand Wood pigeon keeps an eye on progress

This morning i had company, a large wood pigeon was eating the kowhai (endemic native tree) seed pods. As he noisily ate i set to work protecting my seeds from the forcasted cold snap.

Ive been quite ambitious planting my cucumbers, beans and corn out in the ground now with spring still officiallly a week or more away.

Fingers crossed!

Seeds,eggs and stuff!

Well today was full of exitement as my hens laid their first eggs! ommellettes all round. I finally got our new hen house delivered and its like the taj mahal compared to the slap happy house they first had, hense the eggs of course!

Then it was seed planting and possum proofing the sweet peas! I lost my young seedlings to the possums, i cant say i blame them as its winter and theres little food around for them and my peas were looking good!

The leftovers! There must be a happy fat possum around here!

I took apart my old chicken coope which has freed up some materials for the garden such as bird netting and stakes, so i set to work possum proofing the beans and sweet peas and snow peas.

I then set to work leveling the site for the glass house, which proved harder than first thought with solid clay soil, riddled with concrete and old glass bottles

New Zealand Vegetable Garden First Day

This is my online journal of my vegetable garden.. After years of living in a small apartment i have finally moved to an area with a good amount of space for a vegetable garden!
I have chosen to plant heirloom and heritage vegetable from New Zealand. I like to use minimal fetilizers and no chemicals and i love knowing exactly where my food has come from.
